Youth Union receives documents about Spratly, Paracel

NDO – Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan presented 180 maps and documents affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos to the Central Committees of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation at a ceremony held in Hanoi on March 11.

The maps and documents presented were collected from within the country and around the world, proving Vietnam’s peaceful, legal and historic sovereignty claim over the two archipelagos and the continuous practice of sovereignty and protection conducted by Vietnamese states and feudal dynasties.

They were categorised into four groups: documents issued by Vietnamese feudal dynasties from the 17th to 20th century, affirming Vietnam’s continuous claim and practice of sovereignty over the two archipelagos; 60 maps proving the country’s sovereignty over both archipelagos published by Vietnam, Western countries and China since the 16th century; 15 copied documents about the country’s practice of sovereignty over the two archipelagos by French colonists and the Republic of Vietnam; and photos depicting current Truong Sa and contributions of the information and communication sector in protecting the national sovereignty over seas and islands.

The documents and maps were displayed at 22 exhibitions organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications in 15 cities and provinces nationwide, as well as in Sinh Ton, Nam Yet and Great Truong Sa of the Spratly archipelago.
